BOOKS THAT CAN HELP...”The SPORTS GENE…Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic Performance”
I'm going to highlight Book{s} that have helped me over the years in Running and/or Triathlons....{Or even Life...lol}.
The books that I am going to highlight....are Biographies/Autobiographies/In depth studies on Training...not only on the physical but also on mental and how your personal life affects your training. Consistence and Balance!!
Over the next few weeks I will be reviewing books that touch on the Science and Training for those wanting to learn in-depth the “how” & “why” of Improving you Athletic Performance!!!
This book goes in-depth on the science behind Great Athletic Performance’s. Be Prepared…This is not an Easy Read….lol
Here is just a taste of what you can find in its pages……
Last Tuesday at the beginning of The Track Workout I read a small portion from page 202….”for years, the rest of the world was helping Kenya by getting slower. Even before Kenya commandeered the international running scene, the countries that had dominated distance running---Britain, Finland, the United States—were growing increasingly wealthy, increasingly overweight, increasingly interested in other sports, and increasingly less likely to train seriously in distance running. Between 1983 and 1998, the number of U.S. men who ran under 2:20 in the marathon for the year declined from 267 to 35. Great Britian declined from 137 to 17 over the same period…The genes didn’t go away in____, the culture did”
What, in my opinion, is just crazy {and you may not remember} but in the early 1970’s athletes had to be amateurs…meaning they could not receive money as an athlete {in prize money…endorsements etc.}and still we had so many running during this time. Yet when that changed we still saw such a decline!!
Here are a few chapter that you must read…..
“Why Men have Nipples”…pg 56
“The talent of Trainability”…pg 75
“Superbaby, Bully Whippets, and Trainability of Muscle”…pg 100
“The Big Bang of Body Types”…pg 114
“We are All Black {Sort Of}”…pg 142
“Sled Dogs, Ultrarunners, and Couch Potato Genes”…pg 223
“The Gold Medal Mutation”…pg 266
And these are just a few chapters. The book is filled with little insights that can help you to understand the science of becoming or mentoring others to be…maybe not great…but good Athletes!
I hope you take the time…and yes it will take time to read and get a feel for all the information crammed into each chapter.
Thanks,
Ran
