BOOKS THAT CAN HELP...

June 23,02024  BOOKS THAT CAN HELP...”The Happy Runner"
I'm going to highlight Book{s} that have helped me over the years in Running and/or Triathlons....{Or even Life...lol}.
The books that I am going to highlight....are Biographies/Autobiographies/In depth studies on Training...not only on the physical but also on mental and how your personal life affects your training. Consistence and Balance!!
The 3rd book is “The Happy Runner {Love The Process, Get Faster, Run Longer}”…Roche and Roche
The Happy Runner is written by a Husband & Wife team discussing the Physical/Medical/Emotional aspects of Running.
Is your daily run starting to drag you down? Has running become a chore rather than the delight it once was? Then The Happy Runner is the answer for you!!
I think this book is a must for all runners! I believe this so much that over the past 5 years I have given away dozens of the book because I believe the message is what we need! The emphasis on “Developing the kindness Habit” pg 67 “If Everyone Is A Teammate, You Always Win” pg 63 “Enthusiasm Is The Greatest Thing Ever” pg 73 “The Magical Power Of Self Belief” pg 80 The chapters on “Running and Mental Health” pg 105 and “Eating Disorders and Body Image” pg 108 and “Easy Is An Effort, Not A Pace” pg132. The book is just filled with SO MANY GEMS!!!!!
Here is an exert…
“In running, the best example is the “Shalene Flanagan Effect” described by the NEW YORK TIMES in November 2017. The article summarizes it: “Every single one of her training partners---11 women in total---has made it to the Olympics while training with her, an extraordinary feat Call it the Shalane Effect: You serve as a rocket booster for the careers of the women who work alongside you, while catapulting forward yourself.” Flanagan did it by replacing cutthroat competition with kindness, by drawing the lines of who she considered her running family widely. “Instead of being threatened by her teammates’ growing accomplishments, Flanagan embraced them, and brought in more women, elevating them to her level until they become the most formidable group of distance athletes in the nation”. The article credits her passion, being Team-Oriented rather than selfish. Pg 79
And when you read this …How it affected Des Linden on this page…
I hope you find this book inspiring and thought provoking!!
