BOOKS THAT CAN HELP...
June 9, 2024.
I'm going to highlight Book{s} that have helped me over the years in Running and/or Triathlons.... {Or even Life...lol}.
I try to read as much as possible, especially on topics that interest me! Usually, it only takes a few minutes for me to decide if a book is worth my time. And if it is I almost always read a book with a highlighter and/or a pen. I make notes in the margins...I highlight things that are important! Now I almost always read a book 3 times! Yes...That seems a little crazy.... I have found for me that it takes 3 times on anything for me to learn. I don't always read a book "front to back". There are chapters that grab my attention, so I read them first and eventually I finish the book and then I put it away for a time {a month to a couple of years}. But eventually I came back to the book. Next time I read it from front to back with highlighter and pen in hand spending time focusing on previous highlights and notes. That is the 2nd read. And on the 3rd read I only read the highlights and notes.
The books that I am going to highlight.... are Biographies/Autobiographies/In depth studies on Training...not only on the physical but also on mental and how your personal life affects your training. Consistence and Balance!!
The 1st book is "Let Your Mind Run...a Memoir of THINKING MY WAY TO VICTORY"....Deena Kastor
This book covers the Life Of Deena Kastor. An Olympic medalist and the American record holder in the Marathon.
Emily Sisson who came in second at the Marathon Trials this year when interviewed after the race commented seeing Deana in the lead car inspired/reminded in the later part of the race when I was tired/spent that I can finish strong. She was referring to this book.
In the prologue Deena writes..."I realized a good attitude went far beyond the general idea of staying positive. It was part discipline, a long-cultivated habit of building and sustaining a positive mind capable of turning every experience into fuel".
"I realized I could change my Thinking".
"With a single thought, I realized, I could change the outcome of a workout, drawing out more strength and speed from my body".
I hope you find this book inspiring and thought provoking!!
Thanks,
Ran
